Electronics Engineer

Job Summary

The role of the Electronics is proactively support Crystal Fountains by updating existing electronics and firmware, creating new electronic products and systems as well as ensure the security of production needs in our PCBA and firmware designs. This will involve working with our product development, product design engineering, procurement team, production build teams, quality team, and inventory team to ensure that we have security of supply and that our existing products can be delivered on time at the highest possible quality to our customers. They will also support sales and customer service to ensure that any custom needs are met and that electronics expertise is available to support our products in the field.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Creating new electronic product ideas.
• Security of Delivery of our PCBA and Firmware Products, ensure that obsolescence and shortages are mitigated with creative options for alternate components.
• Compliance with regulatory bodies such as EMC, UL, etc.
• Product improvements. Modifying the product or the firmware to improve reliability and customer experience and ease of manufacture
• Cost reductions – Find creative ways to reduce variation and reduce cost without negative impacts to delivery or quality
• Collaborate with Supply Chain to ensure security of supply of PCBA’s and discrete electronics components.
• Decrease Cost of Crystal Products
• Improve manufacturability of Crystal Products
• Improve documentation and reduce technical debt.
• Increase the quality and reliability of Crystal products
• Production support – Design test methods and equipment, train operators on assembly and test methods
• Product Support – ensure that Crystal’s customers products are working properly in the field
• Develop and follow disciplined document control and revision management methods
• Support Costing and estimating of custom electronics
• Undertake any other reasonable assignments
• Adhere to “Code of Business Conduct & Ethics”.

Departmental Goals (KRAs)

• EMC Compliance on all Crystal electronics
• Collaborate with Supply Chain to ensure security of supply of PCBA’s and discrete electronics components.
• Make LED007/008 driver board part of Crystal products system using same firmware and behavior
• Complete production testing systems for all product variations
• Upgrade Leds to new Luxeon from 3535 line to 2835
• Upgrade Rebel and Rebel ES line to Luxeon C line
• Develop new products for the European Market

Experience: 

Technical College Electrical Technologist Diploma as a minimum, Electrical/Electronics Engineering Graduate preferred.

8-10 years minimum relevant industry and design experience. PCB design and microprocessor firmware programming.

• Has created new PCBA designs and operating firmware from scratch.
• Experience with LED lighting
• Experience with DMX and RDM protocols
• Experience with Stepper and Servo motor controls
• Experience with standard hand tools and machine tools.
• Experience with UL, CSA, and IEC compliance

Skills/Abilities:

• 8-10 years minimum relevant industry and design experience Good communication skills (Spoken and Written English).
• Ability to work within a mandate and with minimum supervision.
• Ability to work well in a team.
• Can work with Solidworks and AutoCAD
• Experience with Altium Electronics design CAD software, and others
• Ability to write firmware in Assembly, C and other languages
• Knowledge of standard electronics documentation practices.
• Knowledge of Bills of Material.
• Knowledge of microcontroller, selection and programming
• Ability to find products and materials using the Internet and other standard resource tools.
• Experience with developing small consumer controls type products would be an asset.
• Ability to handle multiple projects.
• Proficiency with MS Office suite of software
• Ability to travel globally.
• Understands small company environment and is not afraid to “pitch in” to get things done.
• Ability and desire to work hands on with prototyping and testing of new products.
• Ability to perform hands on physical work in the field as required.
• Hands on experience, likes to build things as a hobby.

Salary: $85,0000 – $110,000 per year dependant on experience
