RICH HISTORY & LANDMARK
Heartland of America Park is located across from Omaha’s Old Market district, which is a testament to the city’s urban revitalization efforts that began in the early 1990s. Initially developed to transform an industrial area into a vibrant public space, the park symbolized Omaha’s resurgence and forward-thinking urban planning.
Spanning 31 acres, Heartland of America Park offers visitors scenic shoreline piers and expansive walking trails. One of its most iconic features is the large lake, home to three spectacular fountains, including a towering central fountain that reaches an impressive 320 feet in height. This fountain has become a beloved local landmark, representing the beauty and ambition of Omaha’s downtown revitalization.
KEY PLAYERS
KEY PLAYERS
The revitalization of Heartland of America Park was made possible through the collaboration of several key players, including the Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority (MECA) as the Project Owner, HDR Inc. as the Architect, OJB Landscape Architecture handling the Landscape Design, Fluidity Design Consultants as the Aquatic Designer, and Crystal Fountains providing the Water Feature Products.
We handled the lighting for the central fountain, utilizing 30 60W RGBW lights with 3000k white and 120 custom LED165 RGBW lights with 3000K white colour temperature. Normally, RGBW LEDs feature a cooler white in the 5600-6300K range; due to the fountain’s historical significance, the design favoured a warmer, more inviting 3000K tone to complement the feature’s aesthetic and enhance its visual impact.
A COMMUNITY SPACE
Recent additions to the park have further enhanced its appeal and strengthened its connection to the community. Unique attractions like the Skate Ribbon—which offers winter ice skating and summer roller skating—along with a lakeside amphitheatre, bocce courts, and the scenic Farnam Pier, have transformed Heartland of America Park into a favourite destination for both locals and visitors alike.
These thoughtful enhancements have brought new life to the park, fostering a strong sense of community and solidifying the project’s success as a cornerstone of Omaha’s vibrant urban landscape.
