The City of Corpus Christi proudly announces the reopening of the iconic Watergarden at Bayfront Science Park, marking a major milestone in the city’s ongoing efforts to restore and celebrate its waterfront spaces. After enduring years of closure due to the devastating impact of Hurricane Harvey in 2017, this beloved attraction once again stands as a symbol of resilience, creativity, and community pride. Originally constructed in 1987, the Watergarden has long been a cherished gathering place for residents and visitors alike, a focal point of entertainment, recreation, and cultural identity that helped fuel the revitalization of the downtown Seawall district. Its return not only restores a historic landmark but also reaffirms Corpus Christi’s commitment to preserving its heritage while embracing innovation.
REVITALIZED DESIGN AND MODERN INNOVATION
Extensive renovations have breathed new life into the Watergarden, featuring enhanced flood defenses, modernized mechanical systems, advanced drainage, and refreshed landscaping and seating areas. The design showcases a large circular basin surrounded by lush greenery and terraced steps where water gracefully cascades into a central pool, creating a serene and visually captivating experience.
The upgraded feature integrates Crystal Fountains’ cutting-edge technology, including 162 LED040 RGBW lights and 149 NCA200 nozzles, choreographed through in-house water show programming. Together, these elements transform the space into a dynamic fusion of art, light, and movement, offering visitors both tranquility and spectacle.
COLLABORATION AND COMMUNITY RENEWAL
This remarkable restoration was made possible through the collaboration of Greenscape Pumps as the Water Feature Specialist, Fulton/Coastcon as the General Contractor, and Crystal Fountains as the Water Feature Manufacturer. Together, these partners have reimagined the Watergarden to honor its legacy while creating a vibrant hub for community connection.
