REVITALIZING PUBLIC SPACE
The Lavender Fountain in Cannes, France, is part of a larger plaza renovation project aimed at enhancing the space’s functionality, atmosphere, and community appeal. The goal was to transform the plaza into a welcoming public environment that encourages people to pause, engage, and connect with their surroundings. At the heart of this revitalized space is the Tulip Jet, a custom-designed water feature that brings gentle movement and ambient lighting, adding both visual interest and a calming presence to the area. Its integration into the landscape invites interaction while complementing the overall aesthetic and purpose of the public realm.
DESIGN INSPIRATION
The concept for the Tulip Jet was developed by water feature designer JML, who took direct inspiration from the lavender tulip fields that bloom near Cannes each spring. Drawing from nature’s elegance, JML aimed to capture both the graceful form of tulip petals and their distinctive lavender hue. This vision was translated into the jet’s delicate arc and the color palette used in the lighting. The intention was not only to echo the natural beauty of the region but also to evoke a sense of calm and refinement. Each jet was carefully shaped to arc like a petal, producing a delicate sheet of water. The use of RGBW lighting allows the jets to cycle through shades of lavender and other complementary tones, enhancing the visual effect. The City of Cannes also requested that the lighting be able to represent the French flag, with blue, white, and red sequences. This was made possible using the flexible RGBW LED system, which enabled precise colour control across all 36 jets.
COLLABORATIVE TEAM
Collaborating with the City of Cannes as the project owner, JML as the Water Feature Designer, Agence APS as the Landscape Architect, SUEZ Consulting as the Engineering Consultant, and Crystal Fountains as the water feature product manufacturer and show programmer. Crystal Fountains provided 36 Tulip Jets, each with integrated RGBW lighting, and developed the in-house programming that synchronizes water, light, and motion into a seamless experience.
We collaborate with designers to bring their water feature vision and concepts to life, providing the tools and expertise to support their creative vision from concept to execution. The Tulip Jet is an example of how considered design and precise engineering can transform water into a dynamic and engaging element. To learn more about the conceptualization of the Tulip Jet
